Whether you want to move for your career or the appeal of a holiday destination, Cyprus is a location that never stops giving. The island has become so popular that up to 1 of 5 people in Limassol, a key city in Cyprus, are Russian! Come for the wonderful scenery, sandy beaches and restaurants, stay for the promise of a great lifestyle and career opportunities.
With a variety of different draws, there’s a reason why many Russians are currently making the switch to Cyprus. Check out our guide to get your moving journey underway.
Reasons to move to Cyprus
You don’t need to look far to work out why Cyprus is so popular among Russian expats. Living in Cyprus means you’ll get to swap chilly Russian winters for stunning sunny weather pretty much all year round. It also suits a variety of lifestyles, whether you want something active and entertaining, or a laid-back pace of life.
Many professionals in Russia are drawn to Cyprus because of the promising working environment. You can take advantage of a favorable tax system, a strong economy, and a lively nightlife scene to let your hair down.
Best of all, Cyprus is a place where you’ll truly feel welcome and at home, with locals that treat both natives and expats like family. Should you miss the comforts of home, Cyprus also has a strong Russian expat community in cities like Limassol and Paphos, and you’ll also have plenty of transport links for those spontaneous getaways.
How to move from Russia to Cyprus?
Wondering how to make the move from Russia to Cyprus? Here’s everything you need to know:
Choose your future city
With so many great cities to choose from, it won’t be a problem finding a city that suits your lifestyle. Limassol, Paphos and Famagusta are the most popular cities with expats, but there are still plenty of other areas worth checking out. Do your research on what cities are best for your needs, whether you’re moving to be close to the city center, or want a peaceful retreat by the sea.

Get some health insurance in Cyprus, and you’ll not have to worry about paying through the nose in case of an emergency.
Get a temporary or permanent Visa
Moving to Cyprus from Russia is surprisingly straightforward, but you will need to make sure you’re properly prepared. For example, if you’re going for a temporary stay and have a Russian passport, you will need to get a Visa.
If you are planning to stay in the long-term, you’ll need to get your hands on a Permanent Residency Permit. Valid for up to 5 years, you can gain one by proving that you have lived in Cyprus for 5 years with a Temporary Resident Permit. For a quicker route, many Russians are gaining permanent residency by purchasing a home worth €300,000, using funds that came outside of Cyprus.
Sign up with a local bank
Another important thing to sort out once you’ve moved to Cyprus is your finances. Setting up your Cypriot bank account will make day-to-day transactions much easier to fulfill. Sign up in person at a bank with your passport, proof of address, and a reference letter from your Russian bank. If you can, look out for an international bank with branches in both Russia and Cyprus!
